I have been a professional photographer for more than 20 years by the time I post this, I started shooting wedding photography around year 2004, when I was so busy shooting weddings I found in family photos a supper funny photo session, this is why I wanted to share my experiences shooting Family Beach Photos.
After shot more than 300 family photos, beach or city, I certainly can tell you what I consider the best outfit for a family beach photos memories.
1.- COMFORTABLE FIRST
Over all feeling comfortable is most important point for me, comfortability providing physical ease and relaxation so for you would look, be happy and free to have a great time to truly enjoy the family beach photos, don’t push kids to wear something they don’t feel pleasant to, remember the way you feel will be the way you look in the photos.
2.- CONTRAST
We want to pop family moments, this is naturally unfold by a true and authentic situation, regarding what kind of outfit you family aren wearing a red outfit against the blue colors of the ocean are a great idea to high contrast the family and the arounds, a yellow outfit will contrast beautifully in a vegetation spot and a red outfit will fit in both situations, remember this is just a guide and personally moments are more important than aesthetics but why don’t do both.
3.- FRESH FABRIC FOR HEAT
Comfortable is not only what makes you feel beautiful, in hot places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and all the Riviera Maya you will need something to help yourself feel cool like linen and cotton, they help to feel easy, relax and put you in the most possible enjoyable situation.
4.- IDEAL BEACH FOOTWEAR
Footwear is as important as the outfit for the same reasons mentioned, when location is sandy barefoot is perfect, consider there are some rocky areas and a flip flops will do the job to keep your feet snuggly.
5.- WEAR SUNGLASSES OR NOT
It will depend on you, some people barely can keep their eyes open and some other have no problem, It is a very good idea to bring your shades to the Family Beach Photos and wear them as they will keep your eyes and face expresion restful.
6.- CLOTH STYLE
As previously suggested, a fresh, contrasty and a confortable outfit is the best bet to get a kick out of family beach shooting. Regarding the style I have split in men and women below…
For women a bit long tail dresses are an awesome idea specially when It is windy, dresses blow beautifully but again comfortability first!
For Men linen pants or short pants are ideal, short or long sleeve also look gorgeous just make sure you roll up the sleeves.
7.- ACCESSORIES
Remember you are looking for having a family beach photo and the main reason behind that is those memories, therefor keep accessories to the minimum, for sure, they will enhance and pop the outfit but accessories may be distracting and get the attention of the photo unless they play an important roll for those moments.
